Requirements |
- Driver’s licence required. - Post secondary degree in a relevant field combined with a minimum of 10 years of senior executive management experience in housing and community supporting program delivery - An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered - Able to establish strong long-term relationships with federal, provincial and municipal governments, and housing agencies such as CMHC and BC Housing - Understanding of Tla’amin Nation, community, culture, language, history, and territory an asset - Excellent financial management skills and budgeting - Well-developed project management skills - Exceptionally strong and creative communication skills supporting complex discussions and conflict - Experience working with various software and technology - Acceptable Police Information Check prior to employment - Acceptable driver’s abstract and valid Class 5 driver’s license |
Duties and Responsibilities |
- The Director of Housing will work in close collaboration with internal and external partners to advance implementation of the Comprehensive Nation Plan, including development and implementation of the Community Housing Service Plan (CHSP), a 25-year plan to address the housing needs in our community - Understanding the connection of housing to community wellness, the Director of Housing will be instrumental in growing and overseeing broad housing support programs and inventories in ways integrated with other community services that support health, social, cultural, and economic well-being - This is a dynamic and challenging position that requires exceptional strategic planning, communications and listening skills supported by broad experience in the complete continuum of housing - Builds and maintains positive trusted and confidential relationships with Tla’amin Nation citizens by responding to their inquiries with respectful acknowledgement and actions supporting their needs - Ensures that all housing programs and services are developed and implemented in alignment with Tla’amin Nation’s vision and Comprehensive Nation Plan (https://www.tlaaminnation.com/comprehensive-nation-plan/) - Performs all duties and responsibilities in accordance with Tla’amin policies, standards, practices and procedures - Establishes and implements strategy, priorities, and management practices for the housing department, including through policy and procedure development, workflow mapping, and long-term comprehensive housing planning - Builds and fosters collaborative internal teams and interdepartmental collaboration in support of the wholistic well-being of Tla’amin citizens - Generates creative interdepartmental strategies for optimizing program delivery - Develops and maintains relationships with funding agencies and organizations to secure the necessary funding - Supports development, awareness, and enforcement of housing law, regulation and policy - Ensures staff have tools, training and resources to accomplish their work in a way that upholds commitments to confidentiality, transparency, and cultural and emotional safety - Ensures a healthy and safe work environment for both staff and clients - Responsible for hiring, orientation, supervision, leading and training of direct reports - Conducts regular performance planning and review with employees, providing constructive feedback and managing performance and professional development as required - Develops and manages the annual budgets for the Housing Department - Establishes best practices in records management ensuring compliance with law and policy |
