Requirements |
- A degree in a related field or a combination of education, experience, and training - Ability to provide direct service in high stress, emotionally charged situations - Ability to manage time and work within deadlines - Excellent written and verbal skills - Excellent skills and comfort with computer technology - Persistence and the ability to ask questions and dig up answers both with clients and with government organizations - A successful criminal record check |
Duties and Responsibilities |
- This is a permanent 35 hour/week position - Provide legal information, advocacy, and referrals to low-income residents or those at risk of having low-income - Provide support with disability benefits, tenancy issues, income assistance disputes, old age security, CPP, GIS, debt and consumer law, human rights issues, reconsiderations and appeals, etc. - Help clients understand their rights and responsibilities, clarify goals and options, and prepare for hearings and tribunals. - Address systemic issues that affect members of marginalized groups - Provide community education and resources to other organizations |
