Requirements |
- Current coaching/teaching equine certificate and/or the desire and ability to pursue Canadian Therapeutic Riding (CanTRA) certification. Visit CANTRA.ca for instructor certification requirements. - Commitment to working in a team environment. - To ensure client confidentiality. - Strong interpersonal skills, including a passion for working with children and adults of all abilities. - Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize work in a sometimes chaotic environment. - Ability to communicate our goals and requirements to parents/caregivers, volunteers and community. - Satisfactory Criminal Record check. - Current first aid certificate. |
Duties and Responsibilities |
- Conducts riding classes ensuring the safety of all clients, staff, volunteers and horses. - Evaluates client progress weekly. - Assesses, with other staff, new riders for the Independent and Adult Riding classes. - Works with staff to match horses, riders and volunteers, and provides this information to relevant staff in a timely manner each week. - Works with staff to continually monitor performance of horses in the program and assess their ability to perform, mentally and physically. - Maintains current First Aid certification. - Follows PRTRA’s Policies, Procedures and Practices. - Actively participates in making the PRTRA environment healthy and safe for all individuals on site. |

32 hours per week At PRTRA our purpose is to provide therapy in an encouraging, fun, safe environment for our riders weekly. Therapeutic Riding has long been recognized as a very effective therapy for people with disabilities, providing physical, psychological, social and educational benefits to all those who participate. We operate from mid-September to mid-June following the school calendar taking breaks during Spring Break and Christmas. PRTRA is committed to supporting its employees in their pursuit of CanTRA or equivalent certification. |
