- Two years post-secondary education in related discipline or equivalent, from an appropriately accredited institution
- Minimum three years' recent related experience
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
- Recent direct experience working with adults with disabilities, in a vocational context
- Demonstrated ability to implement skill-training programs and to deliver effective hands-on vocational training
- Demonstrated ability to positively manage challenging behaviours
- Proven interpersonal and teamwork skills
- Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and effectively, verbally and in writing
- Excellent planning and organizational skills
- Experience and proven success in job development, working with employers and acquiring work experience/training placements
- Creativity and flexibility in problem-solving
- Ability to modify and develop individualized work placements
- Ability to develop increasing and appropriate levels of independence with students
- Working knowledge of principles of normalization, inclusion and issues in the workplace for persons with a disability
- Solid understanding of service-industry employment and skills necessary for employability and success
- Ability to establish and maintain effective professional role and boundaries in working with students, colleagues and employers
- Ability to represent the institution in the community in a professional manner
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Upon offer of employment, successful applicant(s) must complete and sign a Consent to a Criminal Record Check form as per the Criminal Records Review Act
- Must possess a valid Class 4 BC Driver's Licence and have a confirmed satisfactory driving record
- Current certification in Occupational First Aid Level 1, FoodSafe, and experience in the field of horticulture preferred

Duties and Responsibilities

- Workplace training for students in job and employability skills accommodating students' strengths and abilities
- Provide safety training and monitoring, following WCB and VIU protocols
- Complete workplace checklists with employers and students as required
- In collaboration with WEST Faculty, implement skill training plans and adapt to individual needs, with related monitoring of skill development
- Provide ongoing feedback and support to students in performing work tasks and applying skills in the workplace
- Acquire and maintain work experience/training placement locations for students
- Provide information, support and direction to students, employers, community support staff and practicum students in relation to workplace training
- Maintain effective and ongoing communication with other team members to ensure consistency in goals and methodologies
- In collaboration with WEST faculty, assist in performance reviews and participate in exit transition planning to facilitate successful outcomes for students
- Participate in staff meeting and other meetings as required
