- Diploma in Licensed Practical Nursing from a recognized institution and current practicing registration with BCCNM
- A minimum of 1 year experience in the field of mental health and substance use, and a minimum of 1 year experience in community health/primary care nursing. Harm reduction nursing experience is an asset
- Certificates in CPR, First Aid, BCCDC Immunizations, phlebotomy training, transportation of dangerous goods and advanced wound care
- Successful candidates will be required to complete a criminal record check to work among vulnerable populations
- Broad knowledge of nursing theory and standards of practice in context of community and mental health/substance use nursing
- Ability to effectively deal with conflict, de-escalate behaviors and demonstrate competence in non-violent crisis intervention and behavioral management techniques
- Ability to teach and counsel people in health self-management and chronic disease management
- Demonstrates ability to communicate effectively through verbal, nonverbal, written, electronic and social media that aligns with organizational values and maintains client-confidentiality
- Ability to plan, organize, schedule and prioritize care activities in a fast paced environment
- Demonstrated knowledge and skills of community health and substance use nursing practice within a person and family-centered model of care
- Knowledge of substance use issues, treatment interventions, recovery process and the broad continuum of care for substance use
- Knowledge of trauma-informed client counselling for point-of-care testing including urine drug screening, communicable disease screening, iOAT eligibility screening
- Knowledge of provincial acts, regulations and program policies and guidelines related to substance use i.e. BCCSU Guidance for Injectable Opioid Agonist Treatment for Opioid Use Disorder
- Knowledge of resources available in qathet Region for people who experience substance use and other social determinants of health inequality
- Ability to effectively provide harm reduction education to people who use substances and their family members
- Ability to provide and advocate for care that is culturally safe and responsive to the needs of a diverse range of people including people who self-identify as Indigenous and LGBTQ2S+
- Demonstrated ability to navigate complex health systems and social justice concerns while maintaining a person-centered advocacy approach
- Flexible and team-oriented with a commitment to ongoing
- professional development, self-reflection and learning

Duties and Responsibilities

- Lift Community Services is seeking 2 Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN) who are passionate about promoting health and wellness in the qathet Region to join an interdisciplinary team at the Powell River Overdose Prevention Site (OPS)
- Within the context of the therapeutic relationship, the community care model and in accordance with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) standards of practice, code of ethics and the vision and values of Lift Community Services, the LPN provides a range of care services to people who experience substance use
- Services include primary care, case management, delivery and supervision of pharmaceutical interventions, and a wide variety of acute and chronic disease monitoring including communicable disease, substance use, mental health and other health issues

This role is in the context of a novel and unique team that will be providing life-saving pharmaceutical alternatives to people who access the unregulated drug supply. Injectable Opiate Agonist Treatment (iOAT) is an evidence-based intervention that reduces toxic drug poisonings and improves the wellbeing of people who use substances. Reporting to the RN/RPN iOAT Program Coordinator and the Manager of Community Development, the LPN will provide access to medications, support people's wellbeing during medication administration, promote harm reduction practices and work in collaboration with the wider team at the OPS and Lift Community Services including people with lived and living experience.
