Requirements

- Driver’s licence and vehicle required.
- Must have some post-secondary education
- Must have relevant training and experience within a hospice/palliative care program
- Have experience working in the non-profit social service sector and/or health sector
- Have excellent verbal and written English language skills
- Have excellent interpersonal skills
- Have effective leadership and team-building skills with volunteers and community partners
- Strong ability to independently plan, organize and carry out work assignments while managing time effectively
- Ability to develop and evaluate programs
- Ability to deal with emergent situations under stress and exercise reasonable judgment when dealing with patients, clients, families, volunteers and colleagues
Have physical ability to perform the duties of the position
- Ability to understand and comply with the PRHS policies & procedures, vision, mission and values
- Willingness to be flexible in hours depending on operational needs
- Provide a clear criminal record and vulnerable sector check every 5 years

Duties and Responsibilities

- Attend Board meetings as required
- Provide ongoing communication on a regular basis
- Check and respond to incoming emails, answer phone calls and respond to faxes
- Maintain and update databases
- Maintain client and volunteer files
- Ensure hospice related pamphlets are well stocked and ready for distribution
- Maintain an active presence for Hospice
- Utilize social media
- Update the Powell River Hospice Society website as required
- Support volunteers and public as needed
- Produce a monthly report to the Board of Directors which includes statistics related to hospice operations, program updates and any risk management concerns
- Perform other clerical tasks as required
- Recruit, interview, train, supervise, motivate and support volunteers
- Accept client referrals, arrange initial intake visits and determine volunteer placement
- Organize and conduct monthly volunteer support meetings, including educational in-services and/or other training activities, and assist with volunteer recognition
- Ensure expenditures remain within budgetary guidelines
- Promote Hospice programs in the community as requested by the Board
- Liaise with medical personnel and other members of the community as required.
- Network with other health and social services as appropriate
- Ensure all hospice programs are being maintained at an appropriate level and are operating in accordance with BCHPCA provincial standards.
- Attend hospice-related conferences, workshops and meetings as requested and share information with the Board and volunteers
- Develop, review and modify operational policies and procedures in conjunction with, and the approval of, the Board of Directors
- Work with the Board of Directors to assess, develop, plan, implement and evaluate new programs which meet client and community needs, as well as revise existing programs

Additional Details

- This position is 75 hours per month for a 1-year term, with the possibility of extension
