Then
Career Link is the offspring of its sponsor board, Powell River Employment Program (PREP) Society, a registered non-profit society set up in 1984. The governments of BC and Canada fund Career Link programs.
Career Link began as a women-only employment program, Work Opportunities for Women, and in 1991, adopted its current name when it started offering employment services to all unemployed residents of Powell River.
Now
Career Link is Powell River’s employment centre. Any interested job seeker can get help from our friendly staff.
Since 1984, agency staff members have become experts at:
- job search, resume writing, and career planning
- informative workshops and individual counselling
- education planning
- knowledge about jobs beyond Powell River and within the service areas:
- Powell River City
- Regional District
- Texada Island
- Lund
- Savary Island
- Saltery Bay

- A street-level facility, with wheelchair-accessibility
- Downtown location on Marine Avenue
- A bus stop nearby
- Air-conditioned comfort in the summer; warmth in the winter
- A comfy waiting area and reading material
- Free coffee or tea
- Self-help area with tables, chairs, and 5 computers for public use
- Computer lab with 9 client computers
- Free basic computer courses
- 2 meeting rooms for workshops
- 14 offices for private employment counselling sessions

Career Link’s Community Partners
With its years of service to job seekers, Career Link plays an important role in the community. Career Link’s involvement includes:
- Employer Committees: Powell River Chamber of Commerce, Powell River Visitors Infocentre, Marine Area Business Association, Powell River Regional Economic Development Society.
- Focus Committees: The Youth Advisory Council, The Model Community Project for Persons with Disabilities, Powell River and Region Transition House Society, Lund Community Club, Community Resilience Project, Powell River Association for Community Living, Women’s Health Network, Powell River Diversity Initiative.
- Interagency Committees: Vancouver Island University, Powell River campus.
